The Democratic Party Parliamentary Group has filed a request with the Constitutional Court regarding the non-approval in the Assembly of the establishment of an Investigative Commission to control the legality and administration of IPARD II program funds in the agricultural sector.

According to the opposition, the rejection of the request by the majority through a vote in parliament constitutes a violation of a constitutional right and limits the role of opposition MPs in exercising their controlling function over the government.

In its reaction, the Democratic Party emphasizes that this decision reduces the role of the opposition in parliament to a formality and creates, according to it, a "facade of normality," which undermines the standards of democratic parliamentarism.

Democrats say that the situation has called into question the function of the opposition in the Assembly, as - according to them - MPs cannot fully exercise their responsibilities to control the government and raise issues related to public interest.

According to the Democratic Party, if the opposition cannot discuss issues that affect citizens in parliament, cannot exercise control over governance, and its constitutional rights are not respected, then its role remains only formal, damaging the system of balance and control between powers in a democratic state.
