Shkodra Prosecutor Elsa Gjeli, who was publicly criticized by Prime Minister Edi Rama for allowing unauthorized construction in Theth, has reacted to the attacks of the head of government.
She has written to the KLP, expressing concern about the situation and requesting a reaction from the institution. The KLP, in today's meeting, has listed it on the list of requests for review, but it is not known whether any decision will be made.
A day ago, Justice Minister Ulsi Manja wrote to the ILD requesting the initiation of a disciplinary process, as ordered by Rama.
The Shkodra District Prosecutor's Office also reacted earlier, expressing concern over the statements made and indicating that Prosecutor Gjeli acted based on a referral from the local police.
As the public show for the release of public spaces continues, Prime Minister Edi Rama a few days ago launched a direct attack on Shkodra prosecutor Elsa Gjeli, accusing her of actions that, according to him, harm the public interest and the protection of common property.
Rama, in a live Facebook link after a meeting to liberate illegally occupied public spaces in Vlora, expressed dissatisfaction with a decision by prosecutor Elsa Gjeli that, according to him, hinders the state in its efforts to protect the territory and the law.
He described her decision as "incomprehensible and inexplicable", calling it an act that seriously harms the interests of the Republic of Albania.
"It is impossible to develop on state land due to a seizure imposed years ago by another prosecutor. These are unjustifiable obstacles," said Rama, hinting that similar situations are numerous and require immediate institutional response.
He asked the Ministry of Justice to take measures against Prosecutor Gjeli, accusing her of incompetence and serious breach of duty, while asking the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) to review the case to assess whether she is worthy of continuing to be paid from citizens' taxes. The Prime Minister warned that this is only the first case in a series of possible clashes with prosecutors who, according to him, "are paid more than teachers and police officers, but betray the public interest through incompetence, ignorance, or even intentionally."
