Albanian citizens continue to lead in relation to other citizens from the countries of the Western Balkans for the high number of requests for asylum in the countries of the European Union.
According to the latest report of the European Asylum Agency, published on Friday, Albanians submitted only during the month of November 2023 about 892 applications for asylum in the countries of the European Union.
Albanians are followed by citizens from North Macedonia, with 711 applications, citizens from Serbia who submitted 507 requests, from Kosovo with 281 requests, from Bosnia with 127 requests and from Montenegro with 30 requests for asylum.

According to the report, the tendency of all citizens from the Balkans is to seek asylum in three countries of the European Union: France, Germany and Italy. Albanians also have the highest number of asylum requests that remain pending in the countries of the European Union to be examined.
Thus, according to the data of the European Asylum Agency, 3278 Albanian citizens are waiting for the review of asylum requests, while there are 2146 requests from citizens from North Macedonia, 1250 requests from Serbia, 966 requests from Kosovo, 540 from Bosnia Herzegovina. and Montenegro are 118 requests.
All asylum requests from the countries of the Western Balkans examined in the countries of the European Union have an extremely low level of acceptance.
Thus, according to the report, Albanians have only 0.55% of the reviewed requests that have been accepted, while none of the Balkan countries exceed 1% of the accepted requests for asylum. The European Asylum Agency said that in November the countries of the European Union received 118,000 requests for asylum.
While for the period from January to November of 2023, applications for asylum in the countries of the European Union went to over 1 million, a level that recalls, according to the European Agency for Asylum, the refugee crisis of 2015-2016.
