Lawyer Redi Ramaj has commented on the process of selecting the new head of SPAK, emphasizing the importance of the competition being conducted on the basis of merit, professional integrity and vision for the future of the institution. In “Të Pashoq”, Ramaj focused on the four candidates in the race, describing them all as high-profile and experienced in important corruption and organized crime issues.
He has requested that the High Prosecutorial Council not be influenced by public perceptions or rhetoric about "favorites" of politics or embassies, but rather judge on the concrete platforms that candidates present for the leadership of SPAK in the next three years.
-How do you see this process in general? Because even for this very important election, there has been a lot of information about what is perhaps being cooked up behind the scenes, to choose the one who is already the favorite of the Americans, the favorite of the government, of the power and so on.
Ramaj: Many names have been discussed for favoritism issues, as you said. The competition is strong. All four candidates are professionals, with integrity, they have pursued important issues. Starting with Mr. Adnan Xholi, Mr. Braho, and the other two candidates, Ms. Musabelliu and Mr. Gokaj. They have had important, weighty files – corruption and organized crime issues. They have handled all cases, the entire spectrum covered by the Special Prosecution Office.
I see that, despite the fact that certain names have been discussed such as "the current president's favorite" or "the Americans' favorite", a candidate is also mentioned as being supported by the US - but these seem to me like rhetoric, a desire or attempt to influence perception by powerful individuals who want to influence the race.
It is better for the High Prosecutorial Council to focus on the candidates' platforms, the way they are running, the issues they have pursued, and above all, the vision they have for the direction of the Special Prosecution Office over the next three years.
If you remember, in the last race where Mr. Dumani ran with Mr. Kondili and, if I'm not mistaken, also with Mr. Xholi, it was a tough race. Each candidate unveiled their program and platform. There was a great deal of interest from the American embassy as well. At that time, it was the American ambassador who personally participated in the process.
- There was a lot of pressure.
Ramaj: Absolutely. Openly even. It took the intervention of the ambassador to be physically there to deliver her message.
