The fire situation seems to be moving towards normalization in some areas. The Ministry of Defense announces that it has been possible to bring under control the flames that directly threatened the lives of residents in the municipalities of Himara and Delvina, especially in: Kalasë, Shën Vasil, Lukovë, Sasaj and Piqeras.
Meanwhile, it is currently learned that firefighting teams and the Air Force are continuing operations near the fires on the heights of Lukovë and Skërfica to prevent the spread of further fronts.
"After an intense and challenging night, thanks to the nationwide commitment - of operational forces, the Armed Forces of Albania, local structures and air support - it became possible to bring under control the flames that directly threatened the lives of residents in the Municipalities of #Himara and #Delvina, especially in: Kalasë, Shën Vasil, Lukovë, Sasaj and Piqeras.
In Kalasë, the fire, driven by strong winds, spread from the territory of the Himara Municipality towards a neighborhood of the village. Evacuation measures were immediately taken and 75 operational forces and an Air Force helicopter intervened on the ground. Thanks to the rapid response and coordination of the structures, the apartments were protected and any danger to the lives of the residents was avoided.
In Sasaj and Piqeras, the fires intensified during the night, endangering residential areas. Temporary evacuation of residents was carried out, while operational forces successfully neutralized the flames and prevented their spread.
In Lukovë and Shën Vasil, the intervention of operational forces and firefighting vehicles made it possible to contain the fire that had affected the surrounding hilly and forest areas. The situation was brought under control after a continuous commitment.
At this moment, firefighting teams and the Air Force, under the coordination of the National Civil Protection Agency, continue operations near the fires on the heights of Lukovë and Skërfica to prevent the spread of further fronts.
