No more "handwritten" signatures, electronic signatures are ready,

To apply to university, open a bank account, register property or lease and purchase contracts... Albanians will not need to physically sign to carry out these processes. After the "digital identity" that will replace physical cards, the country is taking another step forward towards electronic signatures for receiving services. The National Authority for Cybersecurity has put out for public consultation the draft law "On electronic identification, trusted services and digital identity portfolio".

“The draft law establishes clear definitions regarding electronic signature, electronic seals, registered electronic transmission service, authentication of websites, electronic archiving and attestation of attributes, management of electronic signature creation devices, management of electronic seal creation devices and electronic registers in the Republic of Albania, and establishes a solid basis for the construction and functioning of digital identity in accordance with European standards.”

The draft law establishes new methods for identifying applicants for electronic identification devices, thereby reducing time-consuming administrative processes.

“The draft law aims to improve the provision of trusted services by enabling easier and faster access to services offered by qualified trusted service providers, with the aim of guaranteeing reliability and security in the use of electronic identification services and trusted services by citizens, businesses and public administrations, to access online services or manage electronic transactions in the country.”

The use of the digital identity wallet is estimated to provide individuals and businesses with secure, unified and interoperable access to online services, not only in the territory of the Republic of Albania, but also within the framework of cross-border cooperation./ A2CNN
