The Special Prosecutor's Office announced through a long and detailed statement that it has sent for trial several people, who are accused of defrauding Italian citizens through call centers, in a value of around 1.4 million euros.
The names involved in this scheme are "small fish" and completely anonymous to the public, although the fraud alleged by SPAK is considerable.
But, in another case, where the value of the fraud is many times higher, in the amount of 2.4 billion euros, the special prosecutors did not carry out any type of verification.
In this case, the gigantic fraud, but not investigated by SPAK, involves Amant Josifi, former advisor to the Minister of Defense Olta Xhaçka and an early business partner with Olsi Rama, the brother of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Josif is accused by the Spanish authorities of being in the dome of an international criminal organization, which has defrauded thousands of European citizens through call centers.
The police failed to arrest Josif in Tirana in November 2022, after an operation that was debunked by the Albanian authorities themselves.
SPAK, the structure responsible for the criminal and property investigation of members of criminal groups, for more than a year since the outbreak of the scandal of continental proportions, does not dare to start the proceedings against Amant Josif.
Albanian legislation gives SPAK all the possibilities to initiate a property investigation for any Albanian citizen who, even though he is accused of committing criminal offenses abroad, is suspected or at least has indications of having transferred criminal benefits to our country.
SPAK periodically reports on the initiation of property investigations or even the seizure of money of individuals who have been involved in criminal acts outside Albania.
But, in the case of Amant Josif, former advisor to minister Olta Xhaçka and a former business partner of Olsi Rama, there was no such initiative.
The data of the National Business Center show that Josif's main company in Albania, "Odyssey" shpk, continues to be active.
The company was established in 2019 and has a wide range of activities, ranging from telecommunications to investments in tourism.
A few months ago it was reported that Amant Josifi was detained in Dubai by the Spanish authorities.
Meanwhile, in Albania, where it is believed that he ran the network of fraudulent call centers, no authority dares to investigate the friend of the prime minister's family, beyond the statements of the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, who emphasizes that all are equal before the law. / Syri.net
