Lawyer and political analyst, Spartak Ngjela, during an interview for RTSH-24, commented on the news that SPAK has sent a subpoena to former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, to testify, regarding the tragic event of January 21, 2011, where four protesters lost their lives.
Ngjela described the January 21 event as "a great national shame" for Albania, emphasizing that in no democratic Western country do protesters get shot with automatic weapons from the prime minister's office.
" Where does such an event happen in the West? Where does it happen in a democracy? Where does it happen to shoot protesters with an automatic rifle from the prime minister's office? A popular revolt is not shot with bullets ," said Ngjela.
Regarding the former Prime Minister's stance on appearing before SPAK, Ngjela was firm, emphasizing that no one is above the law.
" I don't know what will happen about this, but the law is clear. If Berisha refuses to appear before SPAK, the law clearly states that he will be forced to give evidence ," the lawyer underlined.
He emphasized that all citizens have hope in SPAK, not only for this issue, but also for the fight against organized crime, recalling that SPAK is run under the supervision of international allies.
Ngjela pointed out the impact of the Justice Reform and the work of SPAK, noting that never before in Albania has it happened that high-profile people, including deputy prime ministers, ministers and mayors, have been under indictment.
" All the elites and citizens have been waiting for this. That day (January 21) was a great disaster for Albania. This must be clarified ," concluded Ngjela.
