Journalist Artan Hoxha stated that the Port of Durres is being intentionally damaged through decisions that change its strategic function. He also raised concerns about the new project in Porto Romano and the interests associated with it.
Hoxha said that the Port of Durres constitutes an important node for maritime connectivity in the region and for access to European markets. According to him, the changes being made around this port are reducing the strategic role it once had.
"We deliberately destroyed it not out of irresponsibility. We are creating another port that is not comparable to that of Durrës. We must create a larger port than the existing one. We are moving towards a smaller port than that, reducing our size. And moreover, since this is a strategic node and for international partners, we awarded the tender we held to a consortium that has interests, with Russian-Greek owners," said Hoxha.
He revealed that the Porto Romano project was one of the issues that brought the American ambassador to Greece to Tirana in recent days, who unexpectedly visited Rama at the Prime Minister's Office.
