The Archbishop of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, Anastas, who was transported to Athens from Tirana by an Air Force plane, is being treated at the Evangelismos hospital. He was accompanied by a doctor and two assistants, EKAV trained personnel, for air transport.
Archbishop Anastas underwent laboratory tests so that the doctors could decide whether he should be admitted to intensive care or to a room in the ordinary ward.
According to information, the archbishop is not intubated.
The C-27J plane that transported Archbishop Anastas from Tirana landed at 19:34 at the Elefsina air base.
On board the plane were a doctor and two assistants, members of the medical staff team, who accompanied the 95-year-old bishop during the air transport.
His Highness Anastasios was hospitalized on December 30 in a Tirana hospital. At the time, it was known that he had contracted a seasonal virus, and his hospitalization was considered necessary mainly for preventive reasons, given his age (he turned 95) and poor health.
But today he has presented a significant deterioration, the virus has turned into an infection, while according to information he has experienced bleeding in the digestive system.
Thus, it was deemed necessary to transfer him to Athens and in particular to Evangelismos, where he will be treated in a simple ward and not in the Intensive Care Ward, as it was originally known.
Archbishop Anastas was hospitalized in the same hospital, in November 2020, when he was infected with the coronavirus.
Professor Anastasia Kotanidou was in charge then and this is expected to be done now as well. However, the bishop's situation is under control.
