Academician Artan Fuga has commented on Prime Minister Edi Rama's meeting with Albanians in Athens, as well as the dynamics that the possibility of Diaspora voting can bring to the Albanian political system.
Fuga said that if the Diaspora vote is enabled in the Electoral Code, then the fate of the political majority that will govern the country will depend mostly on the flow of thoughts of Albanian immigrants who live abroad.
"There will be electoral rallies also outside the territory of Albania. This is implied because EU countries are democratic and any political group can organize a rally and any politician from a country can go. We will have that with the vote of the emigrants, many fates of Albania from the point of view of politics will be decided from outside Albania. It means that it will depend a lot on a flow of opinions outside Albania.
France and other countries also have it, but it is not the same because Albania has more than half of its population abroad. We are entering an era where the fate of Albania, from the electoral point of view and the construction of the government, will depend mainly from abroad. These voters will have interests in what relations the party running in Albania has with the country where they live", said Fuga for "Top News".
Regarding the meeting in Athens, Fuga said that despite the populist notes of Prime Minister Rama's speech, the latter showed Greece that Albania also has the possibility of influencing the Hellenic state with Albanian immigrants who are already Greek citizens.
"He was both as a prime minister who has problems with Greece and as the chairman of the SP, as a person representing a NATO member state, and as a citizen who represents major geopolitical interests of Albania. Did it have populist notes? Yes definitely! But these are communication techniques. He showed Greece that if Greece has an advantage to influence the fate of Albania, after 30 years through the presence of Albanian immigrants who have already become Greek citizens, Albania also has its "own horse" in Greece , he said among other academic.
According to him, with the meeting held in Athens, Rama opened the electoral campaign in the Albanian Diaspora.
