20 years around Berisha: the blacklist that holds the Democratic Party hostage!
Berisha's loyalists

Here are the 12 "committees" that keep Berisha afloat...

When talking about Sali Berisha and his influence on the Democratic Party, it is difficult not to mention those who have remained loyal to him for more than 20 years.

These are the same names that were there during the days of government, during the times of opposition, during the protests and during the troubles of the “doctor”. This list includes: Xhelal Mziun, Oerd Bylykbashi, Gent Strazimiri, Tritan Shehu, Bardh Spahina, Flamur Noka, Albana Vokshi, Jozefina Topalli, Fatmir Mediu, Edi Paloka, Eno Bozdo or Bujar Leskaj.

They have all held positions and offices, some as mayors, some as ministers, some as Speakers of the Parliament, some as Chairman of the Supreme Audit Office. Some others have been MPs their entire lives and don't know how to do any work.

All of these are old companions of Berisha and represent what is called the “old caste” of the DP; a group that, although time has passed, continues to survive politically, without reflection and without change. Some of them have been accused of abuses, of contributing to the failures of the right, and yet, they continue to be the first on the party lists. The stains of the past have not stopped their comebacks.

Ironically, the generational change in Albania has not happened within the Democratic Party. Where any normal political force would have nurtured the youth, the DP continues to look from the same dome. People are tired of figures who move around politics only for personal interests and to protect the historical leader, not to build alternatives.

If the DP does not cleanse itself of this circle, if it does not dare to free itself from the compromised legacy of the past, then returning to power will remain a dream that disappears every time the ballot boxes are opened. The Albania of 2025 cannot be governed with the mentality of 2005. And the DP must choose: either it is truly renewed, or it remains a party of nostalgia and failure.
