Here's what DPI is and how it deceives ASKS...
The government has admitted that equipment capable of eavesdropping on Albanians has entered Albania.
For days, the alarm was raised that DPI devices had entered the country, which were installed near internet and mobile companies, and thanks to them, state bodies can see everything a citizen does while accessing the internet.
But there was only silence and the reaction came today, on a government-run television station. The head of the National Information Security Agency, Igli Tafa, although he has been confused by wanting to say that they are only to block Tik Tok and not for eavesdropping, has admitted that the installation has been done.
ASKS has admitted that 7 DPI devices have been installed in the two mobile companies in the country and 5 internet companies. And Tafa is overthrown by his subordinate.
" Currently, we are looking at identifying packages that access TikTok and then blocking them ," said Adriano Lleshi, director of Cyber Security Analysis, ASKS.
So the latter admits that they control internet traffic. Despite the fact that the device can be used to identify those who use TikTok, ASKS can see everything we do on a mobile phone or computer. Today everyone is equipped with a smartphone, where they are connected to the internet and this means that every activity we do is seen.
Regarding this, the person who first denounced the scandal, Besmir Semanaj, has also reacted, dismissing ASKS.
" I thank ASKS (National Cyber Security Authority) for confirming the installation of DPI at ISPs two weeks after my public denunciation. In the coming hours we will talk about the details and absurdity of their statements. Many did not believe me when I made the denunciation, but you should know that I have never spoken without facts ," he writes.

DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) is a technology that allows Internet service providers (ISPs) or authorities to inspect in detail the content of data packets passing through Internet networks. Unlike simply inspecting the “header” of a packet, DPI also looks at the actual content, which means: It can distinguish the type of traffic (video, text, a specific application such as TikTok, VPN, etc.). It can block, redirect or modify traffic in real time. It can monitor the behavior of Internet users at a very detailed level.
Why is DPI used?
DPI can be used for benign purposes as a network security tool to detect and intercept viruses, spyware, and other forms of malicious traffic and intrusion attempts. But it can also be used for more nefarious activities, such as state-sponsored eavesdropping and censorship, and mass surveillance, which is concerning from a human rights perspective. /Pamphlet
