Charles James Kirk, known as Charlie Kirk, an American right-wing activist and ally of President Donald Trump, has been shot in the neck during a public event at Utah Valley University.
Kirk is one of the most prominent figures in conservative politics in the US and co-founder, with Bill Montgomery, of the organization Turning Point USA, created in 2012 to promote conservative ideas on American universities and campuses. He has 5.2 million followers on X and 7.3 million on TikTok, and is an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump.
His condition is currently unknown; he was immediately removed from security and taken to hospital. A suspect has been arrested.

President Trump wrote in Truth: "We should all pray for Charlie Kirk. A wonderful boy from head to toe. God bless him!"
According to a university statement, "a single shot was fired on campus at a guest. Police are investigating and the suspect is in custody."
The university has been closed to the public due to the incident.
