A drone attack targeted the residence of Iraqi Kurdistan President Nechirvan Barzani in the early hours of the morning, according to security sources.
According to the same sources, air defense systems also shot down another drone near a Peshmerga force base in the Duhok region.
The incident comes against a backdrop of rising tension in northern Iraq, where there has been a reported increase in attacks involving both Iran-linked militias and Kurdish forces.
The developments are related to the spread of the conflict between the US and Israel on the one hand and Iran on the other, which is also extending into Iraqi territory, involving various armed actors and making it difficult for the authorities in Baghdad to control the situation.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani condemned the attack on the residence of the Kurdistan president and held a telephone conversation with Nechirvan Barzani, his office announced.
So far, there are no reports of casualties, while investigations into the perpetrators of the attack are ongoing.
