A 22-year-old man committed suicide at the Ponte Galeria repatriation center in Rome. His suicide has caused riots in the camp of asylum seekers who protested against the living conditions.
The Italian media write that the young man from Guinea was found hanged in the room where he was staying, while before the serious act he had written a heartbreaking letter asking that his body be sent to Africa next to his mother.
"The Italian army doesn't understand anything except money, I miss Africa and my mother a lot, she shouldn't cry for me" , wrote the 22-year-old in the last letter.
This event has caused clashes between asylum seekers and the police. Some of them tried to break one of the iron doors, threw stones at the staff of the repatriation center and tried to set fire to a car. As a result of the clashes, 2 carabinieri and an army officer were injured.
Then the situation returned to normal. About 60 protesters took part in the riots.
