A spritz that cost 76 euros per person. Of course, with more alcohol than usual. Accompanied by pizza with mortadella and a little pecorino. And then, the production of promotional videos for a total of 8 minutes of filming, has caused an expense of 67 thousand euros. Yes, you read that right: 8,387 euros for every minute of filming. The trip of the Lazio Region to the Osaka Expo ended a few days ago, but it still continues to reveal surprises, thanks to reports on expenses. For these, the Court of Auditors has opened an investigation.
The Lazio Region's trip to Japan began on May 17 and ended on May 27. But controversy had erupted even before departure. For the number of participants, which was 43 for the Region, including President Francesco Rocca, but over 60 according to the accusers, and for the extraordinary expenses of 1.8 million euros, which included gifts such as personalized ties and scarves priced at 122 euros each and suitcases costing 275 euros. The list of expenses, in fact, has raised doubts about prices outside the market, but also about the fact that many services were provided through direct procedures, without tender.
On May 23, for example, several meetings were held between Lazio businesses and potential partners. Three translators were needed for about a week and six hostesses. The total cost reached a staggering 162,000 euros, including several meals. There were also expenses for audio guides and an immersive experience, which cost 16,000 euros.
The Lazio delegation in Japan has certainly eaten a lot. From May 17 onwards, expenses for lunches and dinners amounted to over 22 thousand euros. But the guests were not enjoying seafood and champagne. On the tables was a feast of burrata, rigatoni with cacio e pepe, roasted chicken and chopped vegetables. The dinner with a concert from the Opera House cost 53 thousand euros.
It is also important to mention the organization of the regional pavilion. With the fee for the architecture studio that went up to 27 thousand euros and the rental of the LEDs used, which cost 48 thousand euros. "It was a trip with a cost management that can be called at least strange", commented the regional advisor of "Azione", Alessio D'Amato. "With aperitifs (alcoholic drinks and snacks) that cost 80 euros and videos that reach up to 8,000 euros per minute. We can't even say that it was a Scorsese film. The proportion that a public administrator should be careful about was missing. The promotion around the world should be taken away from the regions".
Rocca, for his part, clarified yesterday that "not a single euro was taken from the health or services budget" and that all the money spent came from European funds. "I am calm," he added. The Court of Auditors will determine if there were abuses. In the meantime, the Region continues to spend.
An invisible link connects Tokyo with Gaeta and Civitavecchia, where the training ship "Amerigo Vespucci" has been anchored in recent days. The region, to bring it, has negotiated rates with "Difesa Servizi Spa", a company under the Ministry of Defense. The cost for this service has reached 400 thousand euros.
