This is not the first time Yevgeny Prigozhin has been declared dead… and it may not be the last.
The head of the Wagner mercenaries was reported to be among 10 passengers on a plane that crashed in Russia, amid suspicions that there was a bomb inside or that it was shot down from the ground by air defenses.
Four years ago, Prigozhin was pronounced dead after a plane crash, but was not found until 3 days later. This has raised many doubts, both in Russia and around the world, whether Wagner's master butcher can "rise from the dead once again".
In October 2019, an An-27 military plane crashed with 8 people on board in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Prigozhin was reported to be among the victims. International security experts say numerous individuals are already known to have changed their names to the identity of Yevgeny Prigozhin as part of efforts to conceal his travels and protect him from assassination attempts.
Even now that he has been pronounced dead, the Wagner Group has released a video of him along with his right-hand man, Dmitry Utkin, who is also reported to be among the victims. "Death is not the end, but the beginning of something else," says Utkin, while Prigozhin answers: "Yes, we will all go to hell, but even there, we will be the best."
