Serbian police, in cooperation with the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, seized five tons of marijuana. The operation took place in the village of Konjuh, near Kruševac in central Serbia on January 29.
According to Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, this is the largest drug seizure in Serbia to date. The value of the seized drugs is estimated to be between 7 and 10 million euros.
Dacic said that NS (1986) and RS (1958) were arrested in this operation, while the search for another person continues on suspicion of having committed criminal offenses for the unauthorized production and possession of narcotics and for the illegal possession and trade of weapons and explosives.
In addition to the drugs, firearms, at least four automatic rifles and a shoulder-fired rocket launcher, as well as cash worth around 12,700 euros, were also found.
The Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime in Serbia announced that the arrested are suspected of being members of an organized criminal group.
The Serbian prosecutor's office's announcement also stated that this organized criminal group had stored the marijuana in the premises of the company Florakom doo, from where it was distributed to Belgrade, where it was sold.
Authorities in Serbia said that checks are continuing, while the suspects, after police detention, will be sent to the prosecutor's office for questioning./ REL
