Viktor Orban and Aleksandar Vucic

The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, has asked the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, to listen to the recommendation of the official Budapest and return the arrested policemen of Kosovo to their country.

"With respect, I beg you, dear Aleksandar, to think this through. Serbia's enemies are eager to harm Serbia and this is such a situation and case that I think it would be better for you to listen to Hungary's recommendation to return them to Kosovo," Obran said in Subotica, during meeting with high officials of Serbia.

He added that this would help Serbia "in its own cause". "Therefore, I am asking you to think about this," Orban said.

What happened in the north of Kosovo?

The Government of Kosovo has made a decision, on June 14, to tighten border controls with Serbia. The decision was taken after the arrest of three members of the Kosovo Police by the Serbian authorities.

The Kosovo authorities have said that it is about their abduction in the territory of Kosovo, while Belgrade has said that they were arrested in the Serbian territory. The international community has called for their release, without conditions. These developments follow the tensions in the north of Kosovo since May 26. On that day, the new Albanian mayors of the municipalities in the north - inhabited by a majority of Serbs - entered the municipal buildings, with the help of Kosovo Police units. The local Serbs have opposed something like this and as a result there have been continuous protests.
