"Delta Force" successfully carried out an operation that led to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who is now facing US justice.
But who led the elite Delta Force unit that carried out the operation?
According to the revelation of an American journalist, the elite unit was led by US Army Special Forces Colonel Chris Countouriotis, who, according to the same information, had operational control of the unit that carried out the mission.
The revelation was made by American journalist Seth Harp, who reportedly received online threats after publishing the officer's name.
US authorities have not officially provided details of the military operation, but it is believed to have been carried out by Delta Force, the US's most elite special operations unit.
According to available information, the unit was under the command of Chris Kountouriotis, an officer of Greek origin with many years of experience in high-risk special missions and close cooperation with other American security services, such as the CIA, as well as with allied special forces of NATO and other countries.
Chris Kountouriotis was born and raised in San Francisco, California. He joined the U.S. Army in 2004 as an officer in the Medical Service Corps and in 2006 transferred to the Infantry.
He then joined the Special Operations Forces, where he served for 16 years. During his career, he undertook long-term missions in Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East, areas of responsibility of the 5th Special Forces Group, to which he was operationally assigned.
Early in his military career, he served as a lieutenant in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division, gaining experience in conventional and asymmetric operations.
Academically, Kountouriotis holds a master’s degree in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University, a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco, and is a graduate of the Duke Sanford School Scholars Program. His research and professional interests focus on national security, irregular warfare, and leadership development and training.
Organizational Psychology, the subject of his postgraduate studies, is a branch of applied psychology that focuses on the study of human behavior in the workplace, with the aim of improving performance, leadership, collaboration, and crisis and change management in organizations and teams with critical capabilities for managing complex military operations.

Chris Kountouriotis lives in the United States with his wife Michelle, also a US Army veteran with 21 years of service, and their five daughters.
Despite the international publicity the case has received, US authorities have not officially confirmed his role in this operation, maintaining a veil of secrecy around the circumstances and manner of its execution. /Adapted from HuffingtonPost/
He did not serve in the 5th Special Forces Group. He served in the 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, as some information about his career surfaced in different sources. During the days of GWOT, operators from all the five regular Special Groups served both in Iraq and Afghanistan.
