There has probably never been another inauguration of a US President where there were people in the audience with a total wealth reaching several hundred billion dollars.

"Big" technology names found themselves in the front row of guests, pushing politicians or other personalities to the second and third rows.

Indeed, if we were to add up their fortunes, we would come very close to the mythical figure of a trillion dollars, even with Forbes magazine's relatively old estimates of the richest people in the world.

But their presence also sends a strong message. For Trump, it's living proof that he wants to put America first, as many of these super-rich do. For the rest of the world, it's an indication of where power has shifted these days.

The first and richest is Elon Musk, who has been at Trump's side since the summer. If nothing changes, he will also have the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) at his disposal.

Next to him was Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, while also present at the ceremony was one of Google's two founders, Sergey Brin.

Amazon's Jeff Bezos was also on Capitol Hill, another person who has recently had good relations with Trump.

Meta's Mark Zuckerberg also had a first look, as did Apple CEO Tim Cook. Both had made donations to the inaugural fund in recent days.

Among the guests was TikTok CEO Su Chu, who probably owes Trump the company's rescue in the US, after the implementation of the lockout law from yesterday to Sunday.

Also seen was another of the world's richest men, Bernard Arnault of LVMH, whose presence is more subtle than Silicon Valley moguls.

Just these four – Musk, Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Arno – have a fortune that reaches $800 billion, by the latest available count.
