The International Humanitarian Flotilla "Global Sumud", which had launched a mission with about 200 tons of aid to Gaza with the aim of breaking the Israeli naval blockade, was stopped on the evening of October 1 by the Israeli navy.
According to activists, Israeli military units boarded some of the ships, while the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated that the flotilla was warned to change course as it was approaching “an active fighting zone.” Israeli authorities later released a video showing soldiers safely escorting the activists, including environmentalist Greta Thunberg. The ministry confirmed that the passengers were being transferred to an Israeli port.

Among the detained activists are political figures such as French MP Marie Messmer and Franco-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan. The ship “Alma” and the ship “Cyrus” were the first targeted by Israeli forces, while an Al Jazeera journalist was also arrested on board the “Cyrus”.
The operation was also confirmed by Paris, with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot demanding guarantees of the safety of French citizens and their speedy return. He stressed that the French government had previously warned its citizens not to take part in the mission.
The detention of the "Global Sumud" flotilla marks another tense episode in the clash between international pro-Palestinian activists and Israeli authorities, at a time when the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen.
