Russia has again attacked the Sumy region in Ukraine with ballistic missiles, while also bombing other areas. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed the head of the Sumy regional administration, following an attack by Moscow's military that killed 35 people and wounded hundreds more.
Zelensky said the Russian bombing was a result of Moscow's appetite for blood, but also the negligence of Ukrainian officials.
According to a mayor in the Sumy region, the Russians took the opportunity to strike a military target after the head of the regional administration held a medal ceremony for soldiers of the 117th brigade in one of the offices.
On the other hand, official Moscow claims to have shot down 115 drones launched by Kiev in the last few hours. The Kremlin has clarified the progress of the peace talks, confirming that there will be no immediate results.
Spokesman Dmitry Peskov also stressed that no phone call between President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump is expected soon. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was more harsh, saying that Europe wants to find a "new half-Hitler" in place of Volodymyr Zelensky, who will be less dependent on various parties.
"All these peacekeeping schemes that Macron and Starmers are drawing up are based on the fact that this is necessary to preserve at least a piece of land on which the Nazi regime, openly Russophobic, sharpened for the future preparation of another war against Russia , will stand," Lavrov claimed.
While acknowledging that "it is not easy to agree on the main elements of an agreement" on Ukraine, he praised Washington for resolving the problem.
