The United States delegation has postponed its departure for Islamabad for a new round of talks with Iran, adding to the uncertainty over the development of the planned negotiations in Pakistan.
According to the Associated Press, US Vice President JD Vance is still in Washington, where he has been participating in high-level meetings and consultations during the day. He was expected to travel to Islamabad to represent the US side in talks with the Iranian delegation.
A White House official, quoted by the Washington Post, announced that the delegation's departure has been postponed due to "further strategic meetings" taking place in the US capital.
In the same vein, the New York Times reports that other key figures in the US delegation have not yet left for Pakistan. Among them are special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law. All three officials were expected to have already traveled to Islamabad.
The postponement of the trip comes at a delicate moment for the diplomatic process, with Iran's participation in these talks still unconfirmed. Recent developments indicate that the negotiations face new obstacles, leaving open the possibility of further delays or a revision of the diplomatic agenda between the two countries.
