Maduro's fate alarms Russia, Foreign Ministry: Violation of
Putin and Maduro

Russia has said it is "deeply alarmed" by reports of the forced removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro from the country. Russia has demanded immediate clarification from Washington on the situation.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that Moscow is alarmed by news that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have allegedly been forcibly removed from the country after what it calls 'US aggression'.

In an official statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry says that if what happened to the Venezuelan president is true, it "constitutes an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of an independent state."

"Earlier today, the United States committed an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This caused deep concern and condemnation. The pretexts used to justify such actions are baseless. Ideological hostility prevailed over realistic assessments, as well as the willingness to build relations based on trust and predictability,"  the ministry announced.

In addition, she stated that Russia stands by the citizens of Venezuela.

"We reaffirm our solidarity with the people of Venezuela and our support for the course of its Bolivarian leadership, which is aimed at protecting the national interests and sovereignty of the country. The Russian Embassy in Caracas maintains constant contact with the Venezuelan authorities," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
