Do you sleep during meetings? Trump: I just close my eyes when I'm bored
Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump, now 79 and the oldest president ever elected, has once again appeared with his eyes closed during a cabinet meeting, once again raising questions about his vitality and health. But Trump himself says the reason is not sleep, but simply boredom.

“It was a really boring meeting, to be honest. Everyone was talking, one after the other, like a recitation,” he said in his usual informal style during an interview. The episode in question occurred during a session last August that lasted more than three hours and in which Trump, surrounded by cabinet members who showered him with praise, was seen several times with his eyes closed, unresponsive. “It’s not like I was sleeping, I was just thinking… somewhere else,” he added.

The Democratic opposition, on the other hand, has interpreted the images as clear signs of fatigue or drowsiness, while criticism of the lack of transparency about the president's health has increased, especially after several images circulated showing Trump with visible bruises on his hands, sometimes on the right, sometimes on the left.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Trump tried to explain them by the fact that he was taking a high daily dose of aspirin, which, according to doctors, was thinning his blood and needed to be reduced. “I don’t want my heart trying to pump thick blood,” he said in simplified language.
