US President Donald Trump criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for denying that there is a famine in Gaza, a step that gives hope for the start of aid deliveries.
Regarding this statement, former British ambassador to the United States, Peter Westmacott, said that images of starving children in Gaza appear to have had a powerful impact on US President Donald Trump.
"What we've seen in the last few days has been these pictures of malnourished and hungry children. And that seems to have touched President Trump's mind ," he told CNN.
"We are starting to see some reactions ," he added, referring to the Israeli government's recent talk of humanitarian pauses and efforts to bring in humanitarian aid.
"For a long time they've been saying, 'oh, there's no barrier, there's no hunger, nobody's starving, we're not doing anything to block it.' That was obviously not true. And now they're changing their minds a little bit. Thank God it's a little late, but I think it has to do with those horrible pictures of starving children, which touch everyone's hearts ," he added.
