Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi has denied that Iran is laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, days after the US said it had struck ships equipped to do so operating near the shipping channel.
"Some countries have already spoken to us about the passage of the Strait and we have cooperated with them. Countries that joined the aggression against Iran should not benefit from safe passage ," Takht-Ravanchi told AFP news agency.
He stressed that by blocking the Strait of Hormuz, Iran seeks to send a clear message and prevent future attacks.
" When the war started last June, after 12 days there was a so-called cessation of hostilities... but after eight or nine months, they regrouped and did it again ," he added.
We recall that yesterday, US President Donald Trump declared that the US military had shot down 16 Iranian ships with mines, which, according to him, would be used to mine the Strait of Hormuz.
