A medium-range ballistic missile, reported to be of Iranian origin, was intercepted in the outer layers of the atmosphere near the city of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.
According to published information, the interception operation was allegedly carried out by an SM-3 anti-ballistic missile, launched from a United States Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The source is not clearly identified, while the assessment of the use of the SM-3 system remains at the reporting level and not official confirmation.
According to the same reports, three ballistic missiles targeting Turkey were also intercepted by the SM-3 system.
