Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Tuesday that talks between Iran and the United States will not reach an agreement if Washington continues to insist on detailed discussions on Iran's enriched uranium stockpiles and the country's nuclear program.
In a statement to the Iranian state news agency IRNA, Baghaei said that the current focus of the negotiations remains ending the conflict and reducing tensions, while technical issues related to Iran's nuclear activities are not part of the discussions at this stage.
"The negotiations are focused on ending the war and issues related to the nuclear program will not be discussed in detail now. If we try to go into these details at this time, we will not reach a result," he said.
Baghaei described US demands to limit Iran's nuclear ambitions as "unreasonable" and "excessive", arguing that the US approach has contributed to the failure of previous rounds of negotiations.
His statements come at a time of high tensions in the region and as diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire and resumption of dialogue between the parties continue. The issue of Iran's nuclear program remains one of the most sensitive points in relations between Tehran and Washington.
