Iran asks UN Security Council to act against Israel for attacks on nuclear

Iran has demanded immediate action from the United Nations Security Council after what it calls "deliberate attacks by the Israeli regime" on its nuclear facilities, warning that continued aggression threatens global security.

In a letter published in Iran's state news agency IRNA, addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the Security Council, Iran's UN envoy Amir Saeid Iravani accused Israel of violating international law and cited "UN Security Council Resolution 487 (1981)", which condemned Iran's attack on Iraq's Osirak reactor in 1981.

"Israeli officials threatening to carry out further attacks against Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities are a serious and growing threat to international peace and security and require immediate action by the Security Council ," Iravan said in the letter.

The Fordow nuclear power plant is a key part of Iran's nuclear program and a target for Israel. In the mountain cave, hundreds of centrifuges, hidden perhaps 90 meters underground, enrich uranium to 60%.

It has remained untouched since Israel began striking Iranian nuclear sites on Friday, and analysts have told CNN that it is likely that only the US has the weapons needed to damage the site.
