The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, has stated that she will not run for a second term as president of the European Conservatives and Reformists.
The news was announced by foreign media, according to which her mandate will end immediately after the European elections next June.
"I think it is possible that she will not run again, her offer is already very important," Nicolas Procaccini, who co-chairs the European Conservatives and Reformists group in the European Parliament, told the newspaper.
According to La Repubblica, "Giorgia Meloni's workload is heavy and being, at this stage, prime minister and head of Italy's largest party means that she will have to give up other important posts, at the European level."
Finally, it is pointed out that "such an action by Meloni can also work in favor of future political balances".
