
More than 5,500 people have been killed in Iran and Lebanon since conflict erupted in the region more than six weeks ago, according to the latest figures provided by local authorities.
Lebanon's health ministry said today that at least 2,167 people have been killed by Israeli attacks in the country since March 2, with at least 43 deaths occurring in the past 24 hours. At least 172 children are among the dead, it said, as well as 91 health workers.
Israel began strikes on what it calls Iranian-backed Hezbollah targets in Lebanon a little over six weeks ago and has continued to carry out attacks after the current ceasefire between Iran and the US.
At least 3,375 people have also been killed in Iran since the US and Israel began airstrikes on the country in February, Iranian state media, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), reported on Sunday.
