In a celebratory post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump officially announced the rescue of the F-15 officer whose plane crashed in Iran. The operation to rescue the pilot took place overnight in the mountainous areas of Iran.
"We found it! My fellow countrymen, in the last few hours the United States military has carried out one of the most daring search and rescue operations in the history of this country."
It included a distinguished member of our crew, an officer who happens to be a highly respected colonel. I am pleased to inform you that he is now safe and sound. This brave warrior was behind enemy lines, in the dangerous mountains of Iran.
Our enemies were following him, surrounding him with every passing hour. And yet, he was never truly alone. His Commander-in-Chief, the Secretary of War, the Chief of Staff, and his soldiers were monitoring his whereabouts 24 hours a day, carefully planning his rescue.
"At my direction, the U.S. military has sent dozens of aircraft, equipped with the most lethal weapons in the world, to rescue him. The officer is wounded, but he will make a full recovery. This remarkable operation adds to the successful rescue of another brave pilot yesterday. We did not confirm it at the time because we did not want to jeopardize our second mission. This is the first time in military memory that two American pilots have been rescued separately, deep in enemy territory. We will never leave any American fighter jet behind," President Trump said.

Earlier, a US government official told Al Jazeera that the second crew member of the downed F-15E jet was rescued after an "intense exchange of fire".
The rescue appears to have been preceded by a battle between US Army units and members of the Basij militia, while at the same time US aircraft carried out strikes against targets in the wider area.
Al Jazeera quotes a US government source who stressed that a missing crew member of the downed F-15E aircraft was found in Iran overnight and that a rescue operation was carried out, which was accompanied by an intense exchange of fire.
It was earlier revealed that US CSAR helicopters had entered Iranian airspace, with special forces exchanging heavy fire with Revolutionary Guard and Basij units in the southwest of the country.
