Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Thursday that more than 200 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in a broad wave of attacks across Lebanon.
In a video statement, cited by the Times of Israel, Katz described the operation, codenamed "Eternal Darkness," as a strong blow to Hezbollah, stressing that the organization was caught off guard by the depth of the penetration and the scale of the attack.
According to him, the total number of deaths in this campaign has exceeded 1,400. Katz added that Hezbollah is demanding a ceasefire, while, according to him, the group's Iranian supporters are also exerting pressure and expressing concern about the possibility of an even stronger strike from Israel.
He also stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are prepared to act if Iran launches attacks against Israel. In this context, he mentioned the aim of creating a new “security zone” in southern Lebanon.
