A senior German military official has warned that Russia could be militarily ready to attack NATO countries in what he says is the next five to eight years. He made this statement during a visit to Poland.
" By then, based on our analysis, Russia will have rebuilt its forces to a degree that an attack against NATO soil could be possible ," German official Carsten Breuer told reporters.
" I'm not saying it will happen, but it could be possible, " he added.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine since February 2022 has caused the deepest crisis in Moscow's relations with the West since the Cuban missile crisis of 1962.
But Moscow has repeatedly rejected Western suggestions that it might consider an attack on NATO. as complete absurdity.
President Vladimir Putin reiterated last month that Russia had no plans for any NATO countries, although he said he would shoot down any Western F-16 jets in Ukraine.
