Clash over Greenland/ Trump declares war on Europe, imposes tariffs on countries

In a lengthy statement published on the Truth Social platform, Trump accuses countries of being "ungrateful" for American support over the years.

US President Donald Trump has announced the imposition of new 10% customs tariffs on eight European countries, starting from February 1, 2026, with the warning that the tariff will increase to 25% on June 1, 2026, if what he called a "complete agreement on the purchase of Greenland" is not reached.

The countries affected by the decision are: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland , all historic US allies and NATO members. According to Trump, the tariffs will apply to all products exported from these countries to the American market.

In a lengthy statement published on the Truth Social platform, Trump accuses these countries of "ingratitude" for American support over the years and of "playing dangerously with the strategic territory of Greenland." He states that only the United States, under his leadership, is capable of protecting this "sacred" territory from the interventions of China and Russia, ironically mentioning the fact that Denmark has "two sled dogs for protection" on the ground.

The US president insists that US national security and global peace depend on Greenland's inclusion in the US defense system, which includes the so-called 'Golden Dome', a complex defense network that he says cannot fully function without the territory.

It is time for Denmark and others to respond. We have paid for them for decades, we have protected them in every global conflict, and now, when the world is at stake, they stand idly by ,” Trump wrote. He noted that the tariff will remain in effect until an agreement is reached for the full annexation of Greenland by the United States, a goal that he said has been an American objective for more than 150 years.

This is not the first time Trump has mentioned the purchase of Greenland, but it is the first time he has publicly linked the issue to punitive economic measures, revealing an open approach to annexing a strategic territory through tariff pressure.

Trump's full post

For years, we have subsidized Denmark, all European Union countries, and other countries, without imposing tariffs or other forms of compensation on them. Now, after centuries, it is time for Denmark to give something back, because global peace is at stake!

China and Russia want Greenland and Denmark can do nothing to stop it. Currently, they only have two dog sleds for protection, one of which was added only recently. Only the United States of America, under the leadership of PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, can play this game and do it very successfully!

No one will touch this sacred piece of land, especially when the national security of the United States and the entire world is at stake. Furthermore, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland have visited Greenland, for unknown purposes. This is a very dangerous situation for the security and survival of our planet. These countries, by playing this dangerous game, have created a level of risk that is neither sustainable nor affordable.

For this reason, it is essential, in order to protect global peace and security, that strong measures be taken so that this potentially dangerous situation ends quickly and unequivocally.

Starting February 1, 2026, all of the countries mentioned above (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland) will face a 10% tariff on all goods exported to the United States. On June 1, 2026, this tariff will increase to 25%.

These fees will remain in effect and will be paid until an agreement is reached for the full and complete purchase of Greenland. The United States has been trying to make this deal happen for more than 150 years. Many presidents have tried, and with good reason, but Denmark has always refused.

Now, because of the Golden Dome and modern weapons systems, both offensive and defensive, the need to take this territory is more urgent than ever. Hundreds of billions of dollars are being spent on security programs related to the 'Dome', including the possible defense of Canada, and this highly intelligent but extremely complex system can only function at its best if this land is included in it due to its position, angles, and geographical boundaries.

The United States of America is open to negotiations with Denmark and/or any of these countries that have created such a great danger, despite everything we have done for them over the years, including maximum protection for decades.
