Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke today in Russia at a meeting of the board of the country's Federal Security Service (FSB). He said that Russia does not reject a peaceful resolution to its war with Ukraine.
The Russian president also said that Moscow and the US are ready to establish cooperation, but that some Western elites will seek to undermine the dialogue between them. Putin also stated that contacts with the Donald Trump administration gave hope.
Russian and American diplomats met in Istanbul this morning to discuss normalizing relations between the two countries and plans to restore diplomatic presence. The meeting followed last week's US-Russia talks in Riyadh, where top diplomats agreed to resume diplomatic ties as part of a broader effort to improve bilateral relations.
Putin has been saying since June that Russia is ready for peace, but says it is conditional on meeting all their demands. Last year, he set out Russia's conditions for a ceasefire. He said Russia must hand over all Ukrainian provinces it claims but does not fully control, and that Kiev must formally end its plans to join NATO.
