Pope Leo XIV has again made a public call for peace in the Middle East, urging the parties to the conflict to immediately stop the violence and return to dialogue.
During his weekly prayer at the Vatican, the Holy Father reflected on the grave consequences that the war has had on the peoples of the region over the past two weeks. He stressed that thousands of innocent civilians have lost their lives, while many others have been forced to abandon their homes.
"Dear brothers and sisters, for two weeks the peoples of the Middle East have suffered the terrible violence of war. Thousands of innocent people have been killed and many more have been forced to flee their homes ," the Pope said.
The Holy Father added that he is close to the families who have lost loved ones in attacks that have hit schools, hospitals and residential areas. He directly appealed to those responsible for the conflict to stop the escalation of violence.
"On behalf of the Christians of the Middle East and all women and men of good will, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict. Ceasefire! Let the paths of dialogue be reopened," he declared.
The Pope emphasized that violence cannot bring justice, stability and lasting peace to the peoples of the region.
