The military alliance between Albania, Kosovo and Croatia has caused strong reactions in Serbia and Republika Srpska...
After President Aleksandar Vučić, Milorad Dodik also reacted with alarm, warning that Serbs “know how to recognize danger and are ready to defend their interests.” The defense cooperation agreement between Albania, Kosovo, and Croatia seems to have caused great concern in Belgrade and Banja Luka.
Following the harsh reaction of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, the leader of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, has recently reacted with alarm, describing this cooperation as a threat to Serbia and Serbs in the region.
Dodik stated that the military alliance between Tirana, Pristina, and Zagreb harms stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, claiming that the cooperation is directed against Serbia and Republika Srpska.
" Any manifestation of such a concept and the support of Bosniaks and Croats for such an idea destroys Bosnia and Herzegovina piece by piece ," he wrote on the social network X.
Dodik's reaction comes just days after Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić expressed concern over joint military exercises between Albania, Kosovo and Croatia. He stated that this alliance was not created by chance and, according to him, was formed against Serbia.
" They did not create this alliance against Austria or Hungary, but against Serbia, " Vučić said, warning that Belgrade will strengthen its military and is also considering purchasing modern aircraft and helicopters from China.
" While we offered economy, connectivity and stability, others obviously chose grouping and military association against each other. Such messages do not contribute to trust in the region. However, the Serbian people know how to distinguish between goals and danger and are always ready to defend their interests ," he said.
Defense agreement
Albania, Kosovo and Croatia signed on March 18, 2025 in Tirana a joint declaration on cooperation in the field of defense and security, with the aim of increasing military coordination and strengthening regional security.
Within the framework of this agreement, joint military exercises are also foreseen, to be held in Tirana and Zagreb, as part of a memorandum of understanding between the three countries.
While Tirana, Pristina, and Zagreb have presented this cooperation as a step towards strengthening security and stability in the region, strong reactions from Belgrade and Banja Luka indicate that the agreement has created nervousness in Serbian political circles.
For analysts, the fact that this agreement is causing such reactions in Serbia and Republika Srpska shows the strategic importance that cooperation between Albania, Kosovo and Croatia is taking on in the security architecture in the region. /Pamphlet
