Amid statements by some Western media outlets that US President Donald Trump supported Vladimir Putin's demand to withdraw Ukrainian armed forces from the Donetsk region in a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Europeans on Saturday, the information from Axios sounded inconsistent.
Citing sources, Axios writes that Trump did not support Putin's request and, moreover, the Russian president himself has already withdrawn it.
The article says that the US president was ready to interrupt his meeting with Putin in Alaska if he continued to insist on the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the entire Donetsk region.
"If it's Donetsk, there are no concessions and we shouldn't prolong this," Trump said, according to Axios, and after this statement, Putin reportedly backed down from his demand.
It is noted that such a statement contradicts information from other media.
Putin himself has not officially confirmed his demand for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbass as a condition for a peace agreement.
Trump has not commented on this either.
