Talat Xhaferi was voted today as the first Albanian prime minister in North Macedonia. He received 65 votes in favor and 3 against.
This makes Xhafer, the first Albanian elected prime minister in North Macedonia. The technical government will be in operation 100 days.
But who is Talat Xhaferi?
He was born on April 15, 1962 in the village of Forina in Gostivar.
He completed the military academy in Belgrade and Sarajevo. From 1985 to 1991, he served as a senior officer in the People's Army of the former Yugoslavia. Meanwhile, from 1992 to 2001 he was an officer of the North Macedonian Army.
On April 28, 2001, in the armed conflict in Macedonia between the Macedonian security forces and the KLA, Xhaferri left the ranks of the Macedonian Army and joined the ranks of the KLA.
In this period, he was known by the nickname Commander Forina.
In the parliamentary elections of 2002, Talat Xhaferi was elected for the first time as a deputy in the Assembly of North Macedonia from the ranks of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI).
From 2004 to 2006, he served as Deputy Minister of Defense.
In the parliamentary elections in 2008, Xhaferi was again elected deputy, while in 2013 he was appointed Minister of Defense in the Government of Nikola Gruevski.
From 2014 to 2016, he again held the post of deputy in the Macedonian Assembly, while on April 27, 2017, he was elected Speaker of the Assembly of North Macedonia. Xhaferi held this post until he was appointed as a representative for the formation of the technical Government.

In November 2016, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit awarded by the President of the Republic of Kosovo for contribution and national activity.
