Reporters Without Borders raises alarm: 67 journalists killed in 2025

The non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has published its annual report for 2025, announcing that 67 journalists were killed while exercising their profession or because of their profession internationally within a single year.

The report notes that half of the casualties were recorded in the Gaza Strip.

"The number of journalists killed from December 1, 2024 to December 1, 2025 has shown a new increase, due to the criminal practices of armed forces, regular or irregular, and organized crime," the organization that defends press freedom announced.

RSF reports 503 journalists are imprisoned in 47 countries around the world. According to the report, 121 journalists are arrested in China, 48 in Russia, 47 in Myanmar. The organization also counts 135 missing journalists, some of them for more than 30 years, and 20 journalists held hostage, most in Syria and Yemen.

RSF also denounced the deadliest year for journalists in Mexico, with nine professionals killed under measures taken by President Claudia Sheinbaum. Ukraine, with three journalists killed, and Sudan, with four journalists killed, are also among the countries with the highest number of victims.
