Mysterious deaths are back in Russia. A former minister with close financial ties to Vladimir Putin was found yesterday shot to death under suspicious circumstances.
The body of Konstantin Zavizenov was found by his son in a rural house in Istra near Moscow, according to the state agency RIA Novosti.
Authorities said that his death is initially considered a suicide, but many have cast doubt on this version.
News of the death was shared by Ukrainian political commentator Igor Sushko, who suspected that Zavizenov had killed himself.
"Konstantin Zavisenov, former Minister of Energy of the self-proclaimed Russian republic of Luhansk in the east of Ukraine, has been killed in Moscow with a bullet to the head," wrote Sushko on the X network, while further adding: "He had a measure of distance from Putin since the mafia of the Kovalchuk family", referring to the one who is known as "Putin's personal banker", writes the American network Neësëeek.
The Russian Cheka-OGPU network on Telegram wrote that from 2010 to 2016 Zavizenov was the head of the financial company Inter RAO, in Moscow.
Zavisenov's death follows a series of 'suicides or assassinations' of senior Russian officials since the start of the war in Ukraine in early 2022.
