A US KC-135 refueling aircraft has crashed in western Iraq.
Two tanker aircraft on the same mission were involved in the incident, one of which landed safely.
US Central Command says the incident is not related to hostile fire in the region, while search and rescue operations are ongoing.
Earlier, Israel said it had launched a new wave of attacks on Iran's capital, Tehran, and targeted Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Russian intelligence support for Iranian retaliation against the US-Israel and Gulf allies, as well as concerns that China may also be aiding Tehran, indicate increasingly deep ties between US adversaries as the war with Iran continues to widen.
Moscow is currently providing Iran with various forms of intelligence, including satellite imagery and drone targeting tactics, with the aim of helping Iran strike US forces in the region, according to sources familiar with US and Western intelligence.
"No one would be surprised to believe that Putin's hidden hand is behind some of Iran's tactics and perhaps even some of their capabilities," British Defense Secretary John Healey said during a military conference in London on Thursday.
He argued that this happened in part “because the only world leader who is benefiting from extremely high oil prices at the moment is Putin, because it helps him with a new supply of funds for his brutal war in Ukraine.”
It is not clear to what extent the intelligence provided to Iran is effective and timely, and how regularly Russia is providing actionable information, according to the sources. However, it reflects an important relationship that has been highlighted by Russia’s reliance on deadly Iranian Shahed attack drones in its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
