G20 summit in India, Macron: Putin did not attend due to sanctions

The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has spoken about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, from the G20 summit that is taking place in India. Macron said that the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, did not participate because he is afraid of sanctions, writes the BBC.

"The G20 supports territorial integrity in UN charters. This is the opposite of what Russia is doing, " he told media in Delhi.

Macron added that the consensus on the joint statement was "reasonably easy".

"I gave my remarks on where there is room for improvement,"  Macron said.

Earlier today, Macron held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi, where the two leaders discussed a range of issues, including India-France relations.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not attend the G20 Summit, while China was represented by Prime Minister Li Qiang and Russia by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
