US calls on its citizens: Iranian airspace is open, leave now

As the ceasefire with Iran has been postponed to give diplomacy time to resolve the conflict, the US State Department has urged all its citizens remaining in Tehran to "leave now", after the country's airspace was partially reopened yesterday.

The State Department also warned that Tehran could prevent them from leaving or charge them an “exit fee” if it decides to let them through. Any Iranian-American citizens with dual citizenship were told to leave with their Iranian passports.

It was further stated that Americans could also leave by land to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan.

“As of April 21, Iranian airspace has been partially reopened. U.S. citizens should depart Iran now, monitor local media for updates, and consult commercial carriers for additional information on flights from Iran. Americans seeking to depart Iran may also depart overland to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan. U.S. citizens should not travel to Afghanistan, Iraq, or the Pakistan-Iran border area. Be aware that the Iranian government may prohibit U.S. citizens from departing or charge an “exit fee” for departures from Iran. Dual U.S.-Iranian citizens should depart Iran with Iranian passports ,” the State Department said.
