The Iraqi army has declared that the explosion that occurred today at a military base south of Baghdad was the result of an Israeli attack. From this explosion, according to the Popular Mobilization Forces of the Iraqi Army, which maintains relations with Iran, one soldier was killed and 8 people were injured.
No drones or warplanes were spotted in the area's airspace before or during the blast, according to the military statement, while an Iraqi security source previously said the base was hit by a missile or drone.
The attack caused a fire in facilities housing IDF brigades and Iraqi security forces, the head of the security committee of Babil province, where the military base is located, said in televised statements.
An Israeli official, who spoke to the CNN network, assured that Israel was not responsible for the attack. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq said it launched drones at a "vital target" in the southern Israeli coastal city of Eilat in response to the attack.
