The successive sounds created confusion and silence, and it was initially unclear what was happening, as the hall was located one floor below the incident site. Trump himself later stated that he thought a tray of dishes might have fallen, a situation that, according to him, had happened before.
The situation became clear when numerous armed agents entered the hall from all entrances. The cries of “get down” immediately spread and those present, including hotel staff, took shelter under tables and chairs. The main table quickly emptied: Vice President JD Vance left the stage, while agents surrounded the president. During the evacuation, Trump fell for a moment, according to footage, but was then escorted together with his wife to a secure room inside the hotel, while other officials were sent to separate rooms.
